The Story of our Building
The wait for a building to call our own finally came to an end on Friday, 24th February 2017, when the Minister and our Elder Alex took possession of the keys to the former Stuart Resource Center. Originally built as a church, it will now return to the purpose for which it was built, to gather people to hear God's Word sung, read and preached.
The story of the purchase is worth sharing, as it displays God's kindness in His providence.
Many months of searching for a property led us to the Stuart Resource Centre in the summer of 2016. Due to a recent building sale and the generosity of the congregation past and present, we were in a position to make a good offer for the property. Sadly, our initial offer was rejected, as a higher offer was received. We then submitted a higher offer, only to hear we were under again. Despite our disappointment, we understood God had a plan for us and restarted our search.
A little less than a fortnight later, we received an unexpected call from our solicitor to say the accepted bid had been withdrawn and should our second bit stand, we would be in prime position to begin the legal buying process. This brought great joy and thankfulness to us as a congregation. We took great encouragement that this was God's doing and not of our own ingenuity or planning.
This then set in motion the process of surveys, loans, insurance and missives. The church leadership were kept busy, along with all those who, crucially, prayed for us regularly. Kindness was shown to us in many ways, meaning our overall outlays were much lower than anticipated.
The building is best described as multi-purpose, with a well proportioned sanctuary for worship services, a kitchen and dining area, various rooms and full disabled access throughout. Renovation will be taking place over the next few years to make the very best of the building.
The church prays that this building will become well known to everyone in the community nearby, as well as many others who desire to meet with us for fellowship and a desire to believe in Jesus Christ.
An article on the denominations website from May gives a good update on progress so far.
Our thanks go to our solicitors at Ledingham Chalmers for their assistance in all legal matters.
