On the 6th February, the Scottish Government held a consultation event in Aberdeen on the campaign, 'One Scotland: Consultation on Current Hate Crime Legislation.' Our Minister was able to get along to be part of the discussion group. At the weekly prayer meeting, we had a review of the proposed legislation. The Government appear very determined to proceed with this, regardless of the consultation. Rev. McGlynn raised some important matters and felt some of the Biblical views presented were respected, if not fully heeded. The government website interestingly uses a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King to add some gravitas to a policy which has blatantly targeted religious groups (some would say especially Bible-believing Christians) with their recent poster campaign (see image below). Freedom of speech and thought is very much under threat unless we agree with things that are in direct violation to the Bible's teaching. The consultation is on-going, and it can be responded to online until the 24th February. The Christian Institute have issued a briefing document, which can be seen here. As Christians, this must be a priority for prayer and after our review evening on Wednesday, we are a little better informed as to some of the dangers we may face.
